I’ve started on another still life, this time a bowl of M&M’s, again taken from my own phone pic (low quality). I will of course enhance it in the same way I did with my strawberries from last year. Hoping it is as successful as that one was. It will be acrylics on canvas, 24” x 24”
Ford vs Ferrari
The Ford GT40 MKIV of Dan Gurney leads a Ferrari 330 through the Esses. Acrylic on canvas 11 x14.
Relics of Yesteryear
I’m glad I kept these old treasures from when I began my career in 1986 as a graphic designer. I was creating advertising at Beaver Lumber Corporation’s head office from 1986-1989 in Markham, Ontario. Beaver Lumber Corporation was then a large DIY chain in Canada, now defunct. This was the days before Macs so we had to conceptualize with hand drawn layouts using markers. The production was also done by hand in a cut & paste method with typesetting machines. These layouts show a couple of requirements. The Christmas image was for our weekly flyer campaigns. The background in the header was airbrushed when it would be generated in a few minutes with a Mac. The two catalogue cover concepts were for our yearly catalogue. The idea here was to show the logo burned onto a bundle of 2x4’s. I don’t have a printed copy of that one unfortunately.
Ford vs Ferrari Update
More progress on the background. Fiddling with details and subtlety. Movie was good.
Christmas Commission
My niece's husband asked for this commission of his and my niece's kids, Chelsea and Evan. The photo was taken by him a few weeks back. The original photo is a landscape composition but I cropped it into a portrait format which I think makes for a more compelling composition.
Ford vs Ferrari (Update)
Started on this project again. Hopefully will take shape as I add details and refinements Starting to add little details such as keylines around the number and racing stripes. Beginning the background advertising. Will try to keep a blurred feel, not too much, just subtle.
Completed Ornaments
Here’s a snapshot of all eight!
One More Ornament
Last one (I think) for this year!
Christmas Ornaments
Painted up a few ornaments with acrylics for this year, trying to stick with a consistent theme of birds. I hope these will be appreciated by whoever receives one.
Ford vs Ferrari
Here is the seed of what I hope will be my next LeMans piece. I'd only done one other depiction of a LeMans car, that being the GT40 1075 of Ickx and Oliver. This one will depict the GT40 MkIV of Gurney and Foyt leading a Ferrari 300P. I'll probably do it as an acrylic on board, maybe a 20" x 15" size.
New Tic Tac Painting (Complete)
This one is complete. I will post a high res image once I am able to get a good photo of the piece. 30” x 24”, acrylic on canvas.
New Tic Tac Painting
Managed to start a brand new Tic Tac painting. Photos taken with my phone so not the best quality. Will take a high res photo once the painting is complete. Acrylic on Canvas. 30" x 24"
1972 VW Camper
1972 VW Camper, taken from my own photo at Autofest 2018 in Oshawa. I liked the little fold up bus for the kids that was beside the camper. 10x8 Acrylic on Canvas.
VW Bus (Update)
Further progress. Should be done tomorrow or Tuesday depending on how busy I get with other duties, lol.
VW Bus (8x10 WIP)
Time for another WIP in my 8x10 acrylic series, this time a VW Bus, a popular iconic vehicle. A scene from Autofest in August 2018 taken from a photo of my own.
Tic Tacs (Final Image)
A better resolution image of the finished painting. Acrylic on Canvas. 18" x 24"
Tic Tacs (Update)
Managed to more or less complete the marble today. Must soften the edges and tone back the hilite in front of it. Little tweaks I'll notice in the next day or so before varnishing. Must get it properly photographed as well. Included a shot of my chaotic work space (in my bedroom). 24" x 18" Acrylic on canvas.
Tic Tacs WIP
Started another still life. Taken from a photo of my own taken with my phone. This is an acrylic on canvas, 24x18.
Des Fraises
This one is complete. 12” x 12”. Acrylic on Masonite.
Strawberries Still Life
I’ve begun a new still life, this time I’d like to portray a tub of strawberries. The photo was taken with my phone. The challenge will be to enhance the subject in some way in the painting to make for an aesthetically pleasing result.
